Phase 1:

1. Test of SIBERIA-algorithm for forest biomass classification where neither ERS tandem nor JERS data are available Water Cloud approaches will be applied

2. AP imagery will be used to update forest/non-forest mapping

3. Repeat-pass interferometry will also be considered

4. Methodological development first at two established test sites, then extension to whole region

Phase 2:

If Phase I algorithm not sufficient for Phase II region, ASAR AP will be investigated with temporal variation, and different incidence angles and polarisations. This work will be done in connection with other Dragon land application projects carried out in the same SE region (land cover, rice, drought).

Phase 3:

Forest/non-forest classification algorithms will be applied to Envisat ASAR WS data, giving particular interest to mixed pixels.
